    GARRETT K PEEL, MD, MHS, FACSP

    Dr. Peel is a Texas native and holds medical and public health degrees from the George Washington and Johns Hopkins Universities. He completed his General Surgery training at the world famous Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. As chief resident at the Mayo Clinic, Dr. Peel gained expertise in complex surgical procedures. He was trained and mentored by world-renowned surgeons.
    Dr. Peel's surgical experience includes advanced laparoscopic, single-incision, cancer, breast cancer, gastrointestinal, endocrine, colon and rectal, and emergency/trauma surgeries. He is a leader in minimally invasive, single incision, vein, weight management, emergency trauma surgery and incisionless surgery. He serves on the Board of Directors for several community organizations in South East Texas to include, The Spindle Top Center and The Southeast Texas Food Bank. He is President of the Jefferson County Medical Society. Dr. Peel practices at Memorial Herman Baptist Beaumont Hospital.

    ALEXANDER PERALTA, JR., RPH, MD, DABHPM

    Dr. Alexander Peralta was a registered pharmacist from 1968 to 1975 and has been a physician since 1980. In 1982 he moved to Duncanville, Texas and practiced acute care and general internal medicine for several years. He has served two hospital systems in several capacities including Department Chair, Chief of Staff and as a trustee.
    In 1992, he accepted a full time position as Chief Medical Officer for Family Hospice, Inc. Other positions include Vice President of Medical Services of Community Hospice of Texas. He currently serves as Director of Palliative Care Services and Chief Medical Officer for Compass Hospice, Inc. He has formerly served on NHPCO’s Access and Diversity Advisory Council, Diversity Steering Committee and NHPCO’s National VA Advisory Council

    SUE LYN SCHRAMM, MA

    Sue Lyn Schramm is Director of NHPCO Edge, the consulting services division of The National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization. NHPCO is the largest nonprofit membership organization representing hospice and palliative care programs and professionals in the United States. Sue Lyn joined NHPCO in May 2014 after ten years of managing the strategic consulting firm she founded, Schramm Associates. She has been a health care executive and consultant for more than 20 years, serving in a variety of leadership roles for hospice and palliative providers.
    Sue Lyn has served as an advisor to many hospices and state associations throughout the U.S. She has particular expertise in strategic planning, market analysis, palliative service development and budgeting. Sue Lyn is a frequent public speaker, and has also authored multiple books and articles on a variety of topics. Her book Global Capitation: Strategies and Techniques for Assuming Full Risk was published by McGraw-Hill and the Healthcare Financial Management Association in 1999. She received her MA degree from Cornell University and her BA from the University of Virginia.

    CLARE HAWKINS, MD, MSC, FAAFP

    Dr. Hawkins is the program director of the San Jacinto Methodist Hospital Family Medicine Residency Program in Baytown, Texas. He is board-certified in family medicine and board-certified in palliative care, and holds a master’s degree in Community Health Science.
    He received his medical degree from the University of Manitoba, and completed residency at St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg, Canada, in 1986. He became a faculty member at St. Boniface shortly after residency and became program director there in 1994. In 1998 he relocated to Baytown to join the San Jacinto program. His special medical interests are COPD, asthma, obstetrics, pediatrics, and outpatient surgical procedures.
